Nelson Olmsted was one of the last great radio horror performers. Born Leroy Nelson Olmsted, Jr. in Minnesota, he became an announcer for local radio stations in Texas. His storytelling show, which began in 1940, ran for a decade on NBC and showcased his unique ability to bring literature to life through dramatic narration.

Olmsted's skill in assuming the voices of each character set him apart from other narrators of his time. He captivated audiences with his performances of works by authors like Edgar Allan Poe and Ray Bradbury, demonstrating a deep commitment to the art of storytelling.

This collection features several episodes of Olmsted's work, including stories from various authors, showcasing his talent and the influence of old-time radio.

Nelson Olmsted seems to have had a number of radio shows, all of which are him reading famous/popular stories. I'v e only listened to about 10 of these shows, but I am enjoying them. Thank you for the upload.

More Nelson Olmsted recordings?

Thanks so much for posting these. Do you happen to have his recording of a short story by Jack Snow? I believe it was supposed to have aired on April 26, 1947.
