In this dramatization of "The Saint Plays with Fire," Simon Templar and Patricia Holm embark on a peaceful moonlight drive through the English countryside. Their tranquility is shattered by a disturbing radio broadcast from France, where a would-be dictator threatens to plunge Europe into chaos.

As Templar predicts a grim future filled with invasions and concentration camps, the couple's worries are interrupted by a fire in the distance. Rushing to the scene, Templar bravely enters the burning building, but is unable to save a man trapped inside. They later discover that the occupant is a war profiteer poised to benefit from the impending conflict.
