Casey, Crime Photographer
Loaded Dice
CBS (1947)
by
Loaded Dice is an episode that struggles with production quality, feeling more like a group of people reading a script than a compelling story. Despite having extra time to refine the script due to a previous postponement, the performance lacks the engagement needed to draw listeners in.
In this episode, Casey receives a call from professional gambler Steve Drake, who is in a panic after discovering a blood-stained knife in his apartment. The situation escalates when they find the body of a wealthy playboy, Foster Blassett, murdered in the adjoining apartment. As the police investigate, they uncover loaded dice that seem to implicate Drake, but Casey's determination leads him to uncover the true killer.
Throughout the episode, there are moments of humor and tension, but technical issues, such as a malfunctioning phone call filter, detract from the overall experience. The story ultimately reveals the complexities of the gambling world and the lengths to which people will go to clear their names.
