Casey, Crime Photographer

The Surprising Corpse

CBS (1947)

by

Surprising Corpse is not one of the top series episodes, but it is good basic Casey. The opening Anchor-Hocking skit involves Tony Marvin prepping his voice to sing. Count Leon de Gastone is murdered, and Casey and Ann find themselves in the glittering setting of cafe society to solve the case.

Involved are such people as Paula Durfee, a glamorous heiress, and her uncle Clement, who controls her inheritance. Paula had quarreled bitterly with Claude deGastone just before his death, and she tells an amazing story to prove her innocence. Casey believes her and begins his own investigation, which leads him into the mysterious world of Mrs. Zaybelle.

In the end, Casey is able to name the real killer and free Paula. This episode showcases the dramatic twists and turns typical of the series, with a touch of humor and intrigue.
